This stunning top quality, antique, palace size Persian Mashad is known as a Sheikh-Safi and a Makhmalbaf. The rug was hand-knotted in the 1940's and is in mint condition.  Sheikh-Safi refers to the famous mosque whose ceiling is reflected in the 17-point medallion at the center and corners of the rug.  Makhmalbaf is one of the most famous master weavers of high quality rugs from Mashad, known for the unique and brilliant colors and incredibly detailed designs.  This rug has the Makhmalbaf signature woven into the design (see close-up photo), which is a hallmark of quality and craftsmanship recognized throughout the world.  These rugs are extremely rare, especially in mint condition.  This rug has a high knot count, or KPSI (knots per square inch) and exceptional quality wool, which makes it extremely soft.  The intricate floral design is unparalleled in its fine detail.  The rug is bursting with spring flowers in full bloom on a rich pomegranate red background. Azure, peach, rose, jade, kelly green and ivory are just a few of the striking colors woven into this collector's piece. Size: 11'9"x17'9"
