This is an exquisite hand-knotted vintage Persian Bidjar in mint condition and extremely fine quality. This pattern is known as a "fish design", with intricate details in a wide array of colors, with concentric layers leading to a central geometric medallion. This rug has a very high double knot count or KPSI (knots per square inch), in which each knot is woven twice.   This makes for an extremely thick, dense weave, which is why Bidjars are known as "iron rugs" that can withstand high traffic and will last generations.  The rug was hand-knotted using fine quality wool and exquisite craftsmanship.  The central medallion begins with a midnight blue backdrop, leading to the next layer in white, which lightens the rug, followed by the largest area in a beautiful shade of pink coral. The corners have another midnight blue layer before the coral corners, all of which is framed by a white border, further lightening and brightening the rug.  Each layer is meticulously covered in exquisite detail with small flowers, curls that look like feathers and are meant to represent fish, and countless other small geometric motifs.  The colors are phenomenal, and become more apparent as you approach the rug.  There are so many that you can get lost in them - lavender, lime green, sky blue, shell pink, pink raspberry, sky blue, fern green, navy blue, mocha and countless others, all made from only vegetable and other natural dyes. The stunning white border has an elegant garland of flowers on the vine in many of the rug's colors, framed by thin rows of pink coral with charming small flowers.  Size: 3'7"x5'10"
