This is an exceptional hand-knotted Persian Bidjar of extremely fine quality in beautiful shades of pomegranate, wine and blue. The pattern is known as a "fish design", with intricate details in a wide array of rich and vibrant colors in concentric geometric layers leading to a hexagonal medallion. This rug has a very high double knot count or KPSI (knots per square inch), in which each knot is woven twice. This makes for an extremely thick, dense weave, which is why Bidjars are known as "iron rugs" that can withstand high traffic and will last generations. The rug was hand-knotted using fine quality wool and exquisite craftsmanship. The central medallion begins with a pomegranate backdrop and the next layer is midnight blue followed by pomegranate corners before the wine border. Each layer is meticulously covered in exquisite detail with small flowers, curls that look like feathers and are meant to represent fish, and countless other small geometric motifs. The colors are phenomenal, and become more apparent as you approach the rug, much like a pointillist painting. There are so many that you can get lost in them - sky blue, rose coral, lavender, lilac, dusty rose, violet, grass green, silver and countless others, all made from only natural dyes. The stunning wine colored border has an elegant tribal garland of flowers on the vine in all of the rug's colors with ivory thin rows surrounding it with their own small flowers on the vine. Note how each layer of the rug is divided by thin rows of repeating tiny motifs. This is a truly special piece that will elevate any room and will be passed down to future generations.
