This is a vibrant and colorful, fine quality brand new handmade Afghan accent rug.  Hand-knotted in the villages of Northwest Afghanistan, rugs such as these have been made by tribal weavers for generations.  The bold double medallion geometric design is hand-knotted on a cherry red backdrop.  Each medallion is outlined in bright ivory, which lightens the rug and draws the eye to the center.  The ivory layers frame the two matching geometric flower-like medallions of slightly different sizes, each of which are decorated in gold, red, midnight blue, bright sapphire, hunter green and copper.   Small charming flower motifs dot the red open field and surround the medallions, along with other abstract geometric shapes and small floral bouquets.   The border is a particularly decorative element of the rug, a frame of repeating vibrant squares in every color of the rug, ornately surrounded by intricate small repeating patterns.  Made by hand with natural wool and only natural dyes, this rug can withstand high traffic and will last for generations.
