This beautiful brand new contemporary Kazakh tribal area rug was hand-knotted in Afghanistan.  The rug is woven in a transitional design -- taking the inspiration from traditional oriental rug designs and updating them with modern colors.  This is a very fine quality rug with high caliber wool, a high knot count (KPSI, knots per square inch) for precise, crisp details, and superior craftsmanship.  The vibrant colors are made from only natural dyes.  Bright, cheerful red is the rug's canvas for an intricate design in geometric motifs known as "guls", which often represent natural elements such as lakes or mountains.  Here, three footed medallions run down the center of the rug in white, navy blue and sea green with accents of pale gold, indigo blue and cherry red.  Each medallion has ornate designs resembling arrows, flowers, snowflakes and plats.  Surrounding these larger medallions is a cherry red open field with perfectly symmetrical smaller ornate medallions hand-knotted in the same beautiful colors.  The border is a particularly decorative complementary element of the rug, a frame of geometric flowers on the vine repeating in every color of the rug, framed by thinner blue and green rows of smaller repeating charming flowers and other tribal motifs.  This rug has a sturdy, thin pile that is perfect for high traffic areas and will last generations.
