This is an extraordinary rug and a rare collector's piece -- a handmade antique Persian Sarough Farahan from the first decade of the 1900s in excellent condition with an intricate floral & geometric design. The muted colors have that unique patina and abrash (natural variation) that only comes with antique handmade rugs made with vegetable dyes. The shades of blue and coral in this rug are exquisite: orange coral and rose coral, sapphire and teal, cornflower blue, turquoise, shell pink, dusty rose, sage green, yellow, sea green, mocha and countless other colors are hand-knotted in intricate floral and tribal curvilinear motifs that create the spectacular central flower medallion and surrounding designs for this masterpiece. The colors are muted and yet deeply rich, made from only vegetable dyes that continue to last for 100s of years. The rich coral corners showcase the colors in delicate flower and vine motifs, leading to the wonderful border with a complementary and highly decorative larger leaf and flower pattern against a mocha frame. You have to see this rug in person to truly appreciate its splendor. The very thin, even low pile is typical for rugs of this age and from this region, with no holes or patches or tears. Despite its age, the rug is sturdy due to its fine quality and can handle high traffic. It will continue to last for generations, even centuries. It would also make for a stunning wall hanging or tapestry. Size: 3'3"x4'9"
